The Tipping Point
Healing The Global Divide
by Dr Michael Ellis

For 1 to 2 million years Homo erectus existed in harmony with nature, embedded in resonance with the environment.

Then 100 000 to 200000 years ago , Cro Magnon man appeared.

I think up to 20,000 years ago Cro-Magnon man lived side by side with Neanderthal man who appears not to have had the same laryngeal equipment for speech, The big difference between the two was however the forehead which on Homo sapiens became more prominent with the growth of the neo cortex.

We have to realize that our current historical model of humankind which impinges on ethology, anthropology, ecology and archeology may not be completely correct.

There seems to have been another global culture which predated our current civilization beyond the 10000 years BC which currently demarcates the establishment of agricultural settlement and the growth of cities and the rise of the axial revolution in Religion occurring Two and a half thousand years ago, around the great rivers of the Indus, Euphrates and yellow River.

The axial revolution 500 BC was when, philosophy and CLASSICAL RELIGIONS emerged. This was the time of Homer, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Pythagoras, 500 years later, Christianity was born, and in its own way as with all other religions. Christianity, contains the symbols of the seasons and of the rhythms and cycles of nature.

However the axial revolution also saw the decline in the matriarchal forms of spirituality based on the nurturing fecundity of nature and the beauty of the feminine.

The wonderful example of this was The Minoan civilization which was a Bronze Age civilization which arose on the island of Crete. The Minoan culture flourished from approximately 2700 to 1450 BC.

Goddess and Matriarchal Cultures

Afterwards, Mycenaean Greek culture became dominant on Crete The Minoans developed their culture and religion over a two thousand year period before destruction by volcano, earthquakes and the later persistent raiding parties led by Mycenaean invaders, the proto-Greeks who finally broke the Island grip on sea power and transferred the benefits to mainland Greece.

One age had ended and another began. The questions regarding what had gone on before are still at the edge of historical records that provide no definitive answer.

The Minoan religion focused on female deities.[6] The statues of priestesses in Minoan culture and frescoes showing men and women participating in the same sports such as bull-leaping, lead some archeologists to believe that men and women held equal social status. Inheritance is thought to have been matrilineal. Minoan religion was goddess worship and women are represented as those officiating at religious ceremonies. The frescos include many depictions of people, with the genders distinguished by color: the men's skin is reddish-brown, the women's white.

The worship of the Goddess is also seen in ancient heliolithic cults for example in the living archeology of Silbury Hill Wiltshire England which from an aerial perspective looks like the silhouette of a pregnant woman the hill being the protuberance of her pregnant tummy.

This ancient Global culture is hidden in the mists of time and glimpses are seen in the ancient pyramids, the unraveling by remote radar( NASA )viewing of giant canals extending the breadth of the continent of Africa and the geometric coding inherent in sacred sites.

The Ancient Global Culture

10000 years ago, the planet earth was linked up by a culture which used lines of energy called ley lines. The Pyramids are remnants of this ancient Global Culture.
The peoples communicated by telepathy and also used the power of sound and resonance to communicate and gain higher awareness and consciousness.
The symbols of the flower of life representing the geometric architecture of the universe is emblazoned on ancient walls in ancient Egyptian temples.
The great pyramids resonate and also light up to specially intoned mantras and the ancient pyramids of South America echo with the sound of the quexacotl bird when they imbued with full spectrum sound.

Nature indeed can be a reflection of the heart and mind and we can use our love of nature to commune with our souls.
This is because our bodies contain the forests, the seas, the mountains and the sun. We are reflections of the heavens and the Blue planet called Earth.

All the great religions of the world are there basically, to enhance the sacredness of value inherent in human life and all of life.

In particular, all the great religions have within them this esoteric or hidden message, which is in direct connection with the ancient wisdom of the indigenous people of the world and the lost global culture.

This is the depth and wisdom inherent in the human heart and also our deep connection with the symbols and meaning of the flora and fauna of nature in terms of totems, shamanistic symbols. Flowers such as The Lotus etc by their very nature reach us to higher spiritual levels of experience and consciousness.

Harvard University's Forum on Religion and Ecology (http://environment.harvard.edu/religion/) is the largest international multireligious project of its kind. The overall aim of its work is to find what connects rather than what separates us in terms of religions and ideologies. The environmental crisis, especially the loss of biodiversity, highlights our need to connect with the common ground of our interconnectedness with all of life and the need to highlight our deep respect for the sacredness of all of life

With the rise of Nation States in 5000 BC, spiritual belief systems became enculturated. They were born of a need of small nation states, to find meaning in life and to maintain bonds within the community.

The individual at that time in history was subservient to the collective whole, run by emperors, Caesars and Kings. In the East, the situation was no different, The priestly caste system worked in tandem with the aristocracy, creating a ruling theocracy. True spiritual independence for the individual person was unheard of, as a nation played power games with other nations, vying for land and territory.

Life and death and survival, were key preoccupations in this patriarchal world and the collective archetypes were imbued with powerful symbols of survival, death and rebirth, capped by the God or Buddha Redeemer figure embodied in the priesthood.

The ancient wisdom, which held the key to the true nature of the human being and human psyche, was lost in two separate historical events.

Loss of Ancient traditions and Knowledge and Loss of the Authentic Teachings of Jesus Christ

The first was the burning of the great Alexandrian library in Egypt Ancient and modern sources identify four possible occasions for the destruction of the Library:
1. Caesar's conquest 48 BC;
2. The attack of Aurelian in the 3rd century;
3. The decree of Theophilus in 391;
4. The Muslim conquest in 642 or thereafter.

Although the actual circumstances and timing of the physical destruction of the Library remain uncertain, it is however clear that by the 8th century, the Library was no longer a significant institution and had ceased to function in any important capacity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_of_Alexandria

The second, was the occasion of the Council of Nicea in 325 AD, under the auspices of Emperor Constantine when the authorised version of the Bible was born.

About 50% of the biblical texts were discarded at this time. Only recently have some of these texts, been recovered. A notable example is the Dead Sea Scrolls, which documents the traditions and spirituality of the Essenes who lived around the time of Christ Twenty-five biblical texts were thus taken out of our references during that time an additional 20 supporting documents, such as the book of the Secrets of Enoch, were also removed Ref Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer: The Hidden Power of Beauty, Blessings, Wisdom, and Hurt by Gregg Braden.

These documents, express an individual spirituality, based on the inextricable connection, between the human being and the living universe through the compassionate heart. This spirituality was more loving and feminine, then the patriarchal Pauline doctrine of Christianity, which expressed an external God and the notion of sin, evil and hell.

What all this means is that, firstly, we have lost the ancient traditions and wisdom, which could have given a more inclusive expression of humanity,in relationship to all the conscious universe.

Secondly, the ancient wisdom is still contained within the traditions of the indigenous people of the world and in ancient storehouses such as the pyramids of Egypt , other ancient scared sites, and the ancient temples in Tibet.

Thirdly, the current religions in the world as they stand, still live by the ethos and cultural proclivity in which they were proclaimed, 2 1/2 thousand years ago, and have not yet risen to face the enormous changes of a more inclusive, interconnected global society, which we now live in

The Connection of Heart, Brain and Mind

In response to your concept of returning to the non verbal archaic bonding of the early human where we bond as an extended family without the constraints and rstrictions of the neocrtex. I would like to expand on this by looking at the work of Chilton Pearce. If a child is born of and brought up by a loving mother, without the excessive constraints of enculturation and negatives, then there's the opportunity for the brain to enhance its prefrontal cortex through the orbito cingulate connection, which enables higher essence of existence and the higher mind to take precedence over the hind or reptilian brain.

It has been found that children brought up with severe stress form a much greater growth of the development of the Hind brain rather than the frontal cortex. The pre frontal cortex just does not work properly. This is shown on MRI s of the brain. The pre frontal cortex is quite large and does not develop till after birth Chilton Pearce has evidence to show that high rates of child suicide and child homicide are due to the lack of development of the prefrontal cortex due to degree of stress in society, enculturation and lack of proper parental care.

In other words the neocortex is an evolutionary gift which if nourished with love will grow and develop and enable higher consciousness attributes and intuitive qualities in a safe environment.

We do not need to regress to evolve We do however - I agree - need a reculer pour mieux sauter to transform!

What is so disheartening is the terrible toll , the current enculturation of fear, terrorismand ,fight for survival has on young developing minds. Even worse are the millions of homeless and orphaned children and the children brought up in war zones of the World.

The Imposition of Tyranny

Nation states based on the cultivation of fear and power and survival of the fittest are harming our future generations, impeding their true development as complete Human Beings.

The statement of Annual Forum of the Alliance for a New Humanity, http://www.anhglobal.org/
entitled A Symphony of Transformation, being held this week, states.

"It is increasingly clear that the present path of world development is
generating problems of such a scale and intensity as to threaten the
future of humanity and the fragile environment of the planet. But
governments and the world community at large have not proved able to
summon the will, to build the necessary solidarity and cooperation and to
act effectively in response to the scale and urgency of the immense
problems which afflict the lives of millions today and prejudice the
prospects of future generations - "If the world were a single country it would have all the characteristics of a failed state: rampant poverty, immense inequality, degraded natural resources, conflict between hostile factions, and no legitimate
constitutional authority. In the planetary phase, peace, stability, and
well-being must rest on adequate global governance supported by a popular
political culture and revised human values."

I believe we see in the Middle East is the predominance of Nations holding Feudal power mixed with the imposition of more so called democratized Western culture based on economic rationalism ,creating a cultural mix which has few Humanistic values and little respect for Human Life.

This comment is made within the context of spiral dynamics. In The Cultural Dynamics that Spark Violence, Spread Prosperity, and Shape Globalization by Dr Don Edward Beck, (from Stages of Social Development Ph. D.STRATIFIED DEMOCRACY: Managing the Global Mesh) he shows that the projected bulge of global thinking is in the purple/red zones, with a somewhat smaller peak in the orange enclaves. Many are locked in the blue authoritarian flatland and are just now waking up to orange, "good life" possibilities. Please see Centre For Human Emergence - http://www.humanemergence.org/

I would call Feudal ,the purple red zones which in my opinion represent most of the Middle East REF 1 and also consider the Western Wave of so called Democracy in the Orange Zones a recipe for disaster as it is based on the idea of (I`m alright Jack) and that the Planet has infinite reserves and resources (which it has not )and also the assumption of wealth as the Modus VivendI (ie Wealth is accumulated without real values).

The Primal Challenge To Humanity

Psychoanalyst Arno Gruen has noted that the primal challenge is not the need to deal with the instinctive uncivilised drives inherent in the in the infant.as described by Freud.

The great need is for the expression of the authentic self or the true identity of individual. When this is robbed by projection or identification with external beings, whether they be parental or authoritarian, you seem to get a a kind of insanity, (which I feel is what we see in contemporary society).

People are so brainwashed by the so-called democratic process, that they are not capable of standing up for truth, because they have not the even accessed the truth in themselves.

I believe that in order to create change and transformation, there are two aspects to this process.

One is to see education as a way of enabling the child and the adult to get back to the truth of who they are. I believe this would release an enormous amount of creative energy into the world.

The other thing is to begin to create an integral healing process, which looks upon healing as being a nested series of attributes of the individual stemming from mind body and spirit to environment culture and politics.

To be real healers we need in my opinion to be politically active or to be Political Activists we need to be real healers

A Substantially New Manner Of Thinking

Einstein, made this quote "We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive." in 1954).

Vlakav Havel also stated "Without a global revolution in the sphere of human consciousness, nothing will change for the better in the sphere of our being as humans and the catastrophe towards which is headed - be it ecological, social, demographic or a general breakdown of civilization - will be unavoidable."

The new manner of thinking is based on the intuitive capacity of the brain and was expressed really well in the book by Marilyn Ferguson in the 1960s called the Aquarium conspiracy. In this book, she contrasted the logical parochial, materialistic positivist reductive linear way of thinking with the more encompassing holistic intuitive, creative and all-inclusive wave thinking, which has since been called the new paradigm.

The major problems in this world are exclusion, marginalization and unemployment of groups of people and disempowerment of many people.

There is a great need for those people who play lead roles in society to view themselves and others with compassion and care seeing each person as a reflection of them selves.

It takes work and effort to see another person as a reflection of oneself. It also requires. I believe, a new language, which brings together spirituality and religion towards a transcendent theme of Global resonance which has within it the aspect of synergy and harmony.

I believe that this new language, which can integrate consciousness in the context of a changing society is the language of science. By using terms, which are not emotionally charged we can still bring together and incorporate the basic themes of all religion and spirituality

We need a new view of humanity which seeks for a new consciousness based on respecting the dignity of the human psyche .

The motivation intention and process of such an initiative needs to come from the heart. What this means is that even though we may have different belief systems we have a communality, because our overall aim is to create a better sustainable connected world.

The heart is the source of compassion wisdom and consciousness which transcends our normal mode of functioning and yet creates integration, not only within the rhythms of the brain, but also within the environment itself. A lot of work has been done on this by the organization Heart Math

The predominant mode of expression of our culture is conflict fear and greed driven and based on empire building and National identity with giant armies to bolster up the nation state

However Humanity is growing, evolving, birthing transforming through many societal philosophical scientific and technological processes. These drives of a Global Society in evolution and birthing are all capable of being transformed Such transformation requires analysis intellect art and a molding together of science and religion

To effect real change in the world we have to understand the underpinnings of societal belief in technology, biology. economics, science ,psychology , medicine etc We need to understand how new systems and quantum science and integral healing are the pre requisites of the new Global Society

REF ! The Global Great Divide An Integral Initiative
Don Edward Beck, Ph. D.
Centre For Human Emergence -

On one side of the Great Divide are the ancients feudal empires, zealotry, fanaticism, "My Truth is the only Truth" self-flagellation, chosen-people exclusiveness, jihad-like militant movements, often turbo-charged by the conviction that death in the name of the cause guarantees a ticket to Paradise. Wars are fought to protect holy sites, sacred places, the purity of genetic lineage, or the spoils from predatory empires. Not all ancients generate terrorism but here is the breeding ground for this malignancy.

The archenemy of the ancients are the moderns - the Great Satan - secular, materialistic, pragmatic, technology-rich, economically- sophisticated, win:win oriented, industrial and consumer-based with a stress on personal freedom. Moderns foster nation-states, multinational corporations, fast food restaurants, and participate in global financial arrangements. Postmoderns add explorations into personal feelings, high levels of permissiveness, and strong rejections of authoritarian religions, all of which are offensive to fanatical ancients. These sensitive and caring souls are often the first in line to get their throats cut in revolutionary times. If you don't believe what I'm saying, you are a tad naïve.

In the 21st Century the ancients and moderns are intermingled like never before. Globalization, new immigration patterns, open borders, demands for human rights and equality, and access to the Internet and CNN have illuminated all gaps and asymmetrics. While we live at the same time, we exist in different historic, cultural epochs. The clash of cultures is, actually, the conflict in these deeply held codes and worldviews. Lines are being drawn for a cultural Battle of Armageddon. Everybody is doing what is right in their own eyes.

In spite of all our information gathering and intelligence capacities we have been missing the most important dynamic that is shaping these dangerous times. A militant, pervasive, wrathful, virulent strain of Arab/Islamic nationalism is rising and is blowing through archaic tribal/kingdom structures and even traditional nation-states. Israel and the United States are its archenemies; it is fueled by ancient myths of superiority and oppression and empowered by the images of a holy calling that must kill Western infidels in the name of Allah. Just as the ugly, black clouds of poison cascaded through the caverns in New York City, this blast from the Medieval past endangers civilization as we know it.

In conclusion

I enclose this poem of Christopher Fry, which I'm sure many of you know. It expresses the challenge that we now face, as as a community of humanity to march across the final frontier to experience the mind of God, and infinite intelligence, within each of ourselves. Indeed, events, all around us are now Soul Sized and we need to encompass them with a breadth of overarching consciousness, while maintaining our own integral nature.

Dark and cold we may be, but this
Is no winter now. The frozen misery
Of centuries breaks, cracks, begins to move;
The thunder is the thunder of the floes,
The thaw, the flood, the upstart Spring.
Thank God our time is now when wrong
Comes up to face us everywhere,
Never to leave us till we take
The longest stride of soul we ever took.
Affairs are now soul size.
The enterprise
Is exploration into God.
Where are you making for? It takes
So many thousand years to wake,
But will you wake for pity's sake!
by Christopher Fry

Early and Neolithic human societies, as most research on our prehistory shows, worshipped the Earth as our mother. Theories abound as to how these matrifocal, often gentle societies slowlly transformed into the domination/submission patterns of the competitive conflict-prone, patrichial nation-states of today. War and peace studies, political and diplomatic experts, politicians, CSOs working on peace, justice, and sustainability - must face these great questions of human nature, biology, or upbringing-- every day. Is competition and suspicion of "the other," us versus-them thinking innate or learned? Our answers to these basic questions form the bases to our strategies for self-defense, security, alliances, and dealing with conflicts - whether over resources, ethnicity, religion, race, gender, or differing world views.

Quote from the integral vision of Ken Wilbur

Human beings are born and begin their evolution through the great spiral of consciousness, moving from archaic to magic to mythic to rational to... perhaps integral, and perhaps from there into genuinely transpersonal domains. But for every person that moves into integral or higher, dozens are born into the archaic. The spiral of existence is a great unending flow, stretching from body to mind to soul to spirit, with millions upon millions constantly flowing through that great river from source to ocean. No society will ever simply be at an integral level, because the flow is unceasing (although the center of gravity of a culture can indeed drift upward, as it has over history--see Up from Eden ). But the major problem remains: not, how can we get everybody to the integral wave or higher, but how can we arrange the health of the overall spiral, as billions of humans continue to pass through it, from one end to the other, year in and year out?
In other words, most of the work that needs to done is work to make the lower (and foundational) waves more healthy in their own terms. The major reforms do not involve how to get a handful of boomers into second-tier, but how to feed the starving millions at the most basic waves; how to house the homeless millions at the simplest of levels; how to bring healthcare to the millions who do not possess it. An integral vision is one of the least pressing issues on the face of the planet.

Nonetheless, the advantage of second-tier vision-logic awareness is that it more creatively helps with the solutions to those pressing problems. In grasping big pictures, it can help suggest more cogent solutions. It is our governing bodies, then, that stand in dire need of a more integral approach. It is our educational institutions, overcome with deconstructive postmodernism, that are desperate for a more integral vision.
